01 / Tape

How to choose packing tape

Carton sealing tape is chosen by its adhesive, its thickness and its width. Where the boxes are sealed and stored decides most of it.

Acrylic tape

Acrylic adhesive is clear and resists yellowing as it ages. It is a common pick for printed cartons and for boxes stored where it is hot or humid.

Hot melt tape

Hot melt adhesive grabs fast and holds strongly, which suits heavier boxes, recycled cartons and fast packing lines.

Cold, dusty or recycled boxes

Cold warehouses and freezers, dusty cartons and boxes with a lot of recycled content are harder for tape to hold. Some tapes are made for these conditions. Tell us the temperature where the boxes are sealed and where they are stored.

Thickness and width

Tape thickness is measured in mil. Thicker tape is stronger and is used for heavier boxes. 2 inch tape covers most cartons, and wider tape is used on larger or heavier boxes. Hand tape comes on shorter rolls for tape guns, and machine tape comes on longer rolls for case sealers.

03 / Questions

Quick answers

Call (317) 614-7575 if your question is not here.

Is hot melt or acrylic tape better?

It depends on the job. Hot melt grabs fast and holds strongly on heavier boxes and recycled cartons. Acrylic is clear, resists yellowing and suits printed cartons and hot or humid storage.

Which tape works in a cold warehouse or freezer?

Cold conditions are hard on tape, and some tapes are made for cold packing and storage. Tell us the temperature and we will suggest a tape.

Can I add tape to the same order as my stretch film or boxes?

Yes. Tape can go on the same quote as your film or boxes, and orders of $2,500 or more ship free out of state.
